Katie 1Meet Katie Craney, the new KHNS Operations Assistant. Katie is the cheerful voice on the other end of the line when you call to place your listener personal, and the organization behind the up-to-the-minute information you hear on air every day, like the Earth, Air and Water Report, Community Calendar and Radio Marketplace. Katie and her husband Dustin moved to Haines from Skagway in 2014. Katie originally moved to Skagway in 2010 to work as a back country ranger for the Park Service, where she hiked the Chilkoot Trail many times. Katie and Dustin have been KHNS listeners for years, “I love the way the radio brings the communities together,” says Katie. “KHNS is always there for you. We already had a really personal relationship with KHNS, because it’s on all the time at home, so it’s fun to be behind the scenes now.”

Katie and Dustin are the kind of people who know how to stay busy. Dustin travels between Skagway and Haines as General Manager of Sockeye Cycle, and Katie, a mixed-media artist (katieionecraney.com) leads multi-day bicycle tours on the Golden Circle route. The two are also building a home and garden on a piece of land that overlooks the Lynn Canal. “We can see Skagway from our land,” says Katie. “We look up the Canal at AB Mountain. It’s one of the ways we feel connected. Plus it’s the best Aurora viewing around!”  Welcome Katie!
