Holiday music fans can get their fix during two Haines school holiday concerts this week.

They take place in the Chilkat Center auditorium which is decorated with lights and a Christmas tree set up on the stage.

Jason Muccino is the music director for grades 5-12. They’re the ones performing tonight.

“We have a concert choir, a men’s choir, a fifth grade band, a sixth grade band, and a seventh and eighth grade band,” says Muccino.

When Kindergarten through fourth grade perform Thursday, each grade level does its own performance.

Muccino says students are both excited and nervous for the annual event. He says the program is about 80 percent holiday music, though there are a few non-holiday tunes in there too.

“The men’s choir is doing a snappy tune called ‘Santa Mashup,’ says Muccino. “And then they’re doing a slow tune called ‘Oh Starry Night.’ Concert choir is doing two sort of traditional holiday pieces and then another piece about singing called ‘I Sing Out,’ it’s just a very beautiful celebration of the voice.

Grades 5-12 perform tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Chilkat Center. Kindergarten through fourth grade will take the stage at the same time and place on Thursday. The concerts are free, and Muccino invites the community to come and join in the festivities.
