Tonight’s Haines Borough Assembly meeting was cancelled due to weather.

That means that many of the items the assembly planned to tackle this week will be put off until December or January.

Borough Clerk Julie Cozzi says time-sensitive items from this week’s meeting will go on the Dec. 13 regular meeting agenda. She said that will likely include two heliski map committee-related appeals. It will also include resident Paul Nelson’s appeal regarding the small boat harbor expansion.

Cozzi said the assembly’s decision on non-profit grant funding is also slated for the next meeting.

There is one item that could be impacted by the delay.

Borough staff requested the assembly reconsider a portion of the harbor expansion dubbed ‘add alternate C.’ That work includes additional deepening of the harbor and 33 extra feet on the steel wave barrier.

The assembly excluded that portion of the project when they approved the contract for phase one construction. The main reason was to save about $400,000 for future phases of the project.

But borough staff want to make a case for add alt C. So, it was included on the assembly agenda. Construction contractor Pacific Pile & Marine agreed to include it as a change order and hold its price, if requested by the assembly.

But now that the meeting is cancelled and the decision delayed, Public Facilities Director Brad Ryan says it’s uncertain whether that offer will be extended.

He said Pacific Pile would let the borough know by the end of the week whether it could hold the price on add alt C to the original $380,000 cost.

More information about upcoming assembly business will be on the Haines Borough website closer to the next meeting, set for Dec. 13.
